Training and qualifications

Matthew graduated from Newcastle University Dental School in 1998 and spent two years in general professional training, splitting their time between work in general practice and rotating through all the departments at Newcastle Dental Hospital. In 2003, they obtained Matthew's membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Between 2008 and 2010, Matt completed the well-recognised 'One to One' extended dental implant training at the Charles Clifford Dental School, part of the University of Sheffield. They have subsequently attended many advanced dental implant courses to allow them to offer patients more advanced treatments such as sinus bone augmentation and 'smile in a day' treatment, also known as full mouth dental implants.

Treatments offered

Matt decided to become a dentist after finding out he had a missing permanent tooth as a child. They then spent time as a senior house officer in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Newcastle General Hospital. Matt has spent the last 20 years working in general dental practice. They were also working as a senior dental officer within County Durham Darlington Community Dental Service, during which time Matthew have treated patients with complex social and medical need, working closely with hospital doctors to ensure treatment could be delivered. This has allowed Matt to comprehensively assess, plan treatment for and provide both surgical and restorative stages of dental implants for their patients. Matt now spends around half their clinical time providing aspects of dental implant treatment at the Practice. Matthew treats many patients who come to the Practice as referrals, many who come from all over Northumberland for treatment. Since Matt joined the Practice in 2011, they have built up a loyal patient base, who they have open and honest relationships with. Matthew believes all dental treatment should be individualised for each patient and likes to keep their patients well-informed about their treatment plan.
