Hello, I'm Tiago Pimentel, I'm a specialist endodontist at Colchester Dental Specialist Centre.
So endodontics is the field of dentistry where we treat problems related to the nerves and the root canals of the teeth.
The idea is to eliminate infection from the inside of the tooth or prevent infection from the inside of the tooth.
Infection that subsequently can actually spread into the bone and cause and severe problems.
So the idea is to prevent and eliminate that infection.
There are some almost horror stories amongst the population that weaken our treatment is meant to be painful.
However, with the appropriate techniques, the skills, the instruments, the tools, we can actually make it as comfortable for the patients as possible.
And I can safely say that some of my patients are good percentage of my patients, they actually fall asleep during the treatment.
So they are so comfortable and relaxed and it's such a painless and relaxed environment that they actually fall asleep during the treatment.
So most patients at the end of the treatment, they say, well, I don't know why I was being so concerned about this treatment because it was actually OK and it was actually quite good to have it done.
Because now I know that I've eliminated the big problem that was causing the concern for sometimes months and it was not that bad.
And now they've got a functional tooth and they are pain free.
So it's quite rewarding in that aspect as well.
The referring dentist, they can fill an online form or send us an email with the problem and the treatment that they require.
And then we receive that referral.
We call the patients.
After we call the patient, we make the patient aware of the fees and the process of what's going to happen in the practise.
And then the patient comes for an initial consultation.
On the initial consultation, we'll discuss treatment options, diagnosis and and then we determine what's the best treatment plan.
At that point, we write a letter back to the referring dentist just to touch base and let them know where we are in the process of treating the patient.
And then when the patient, when the treatment is completed, we'll send them a letter with basically what we did during the treatment and what is the best treatment plan after the tooth has been root filled by us here at the practise for us and the donkeys, that's probably one of the most challenging parts is building a relation and building the trust between ourselves and the patients.
And I think that's why it's so crucial to have that initial consultation with the patient because at that point in time I'm able to discuss for the patient not only what the problem is and the best approach to treatment, but also try to understand what are the patients concerns, what are the patients pain points, what are the patients peak conceptions regarding root canal treatment and the myths involves with root canal treatment.
In this practise I've got the latest equipment and I can bring the best out of my skills here because I feel supported by the team, I feel supported by the practise manager, the nurses, reception staff.
So it's just a very good environment to work.
So I can hear everyday and I feel very motivated to do the best that I can do for my patients.
