Training and qualifications

Dr Osman gained a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Benghazi in 2008. Following this, Muataz spent 7 years between general private practice and teaching at the Libyan International Medical University and the University of Benghazi, from which he was offered a scholarship to get his postgraduate studies in 2014.

In 2015, he joined the University of Manchester periodontics department for 3 years full-time from which he got his clinical MSc in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry and graduated with distinction in 2018 a score that got his MSc sponsor to further sponsor him for a clinical PhD study in Dental Implantology at the same university. Muataz was one of the first few students to enrol in a clinical PhD which was at that time only offered by the University of Manchester to a very limited number of students expanding his knowledge in the field of implant dentistry both scientifically and clinically where he was treating far more complicated cases such as cancer patients, trauma cases, severe atrophic ridges, hypodontia cases, among others.

His PhD research was focused on the biological effects of different titanium surface roughness and abutment materials on the different cells that are closely engaged in the process of osseo and histo-integration from which he published all his work in highly regarded scientific journals.

In 2018, he was appointed as Honorary Clinical tutor at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester as part of the periodontics team, where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate students in the subject. In addition, Muataz is an active member of the British Society of Periodontology, the European Association for Implantology, the Libyan Society of Periodontology as well as the Academy of Osseointegration.

Muataz joined the well-known Tipton Training courses as a tutor and mentor for their PG Certificate in dental implantology, as well tutoring the periodontics modules for the PG Certificates in aesthetics and restorative dentistry since June 2021.

In July 2024, Muataz finished an Advanced PG Certificate in Full Mouth Oral Implant Rehabilitation to further expand his knowledge and clinical skills.

Dr Osman treats mucogingival defects and offers implant placement and restoration with bone and tissue grafting procedures, sinus lifts and grafts as part of multidisciplinary teams in many practices across England and Scotland. He also offers:

Dr Osman has a calm and friendly manner and enjoys taking time to understand his patients and put them at ease. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, watching and playing basketball with his sons and windsurfing.
