Training and qualifications
Jonathan is involved in educating within the dental profession. He’s chair of examiners for the diploma in implant dentistry and has ongoing responsibility to ensure the appropriate setting of standards to comply with Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh governance and the smooth running of this examination.
Jonathan was a senior clinical teaching fellow at the University of Manchester for 11 years where he taught surgery and implant dentistry to master’s students. He presented at seminars and lectures and provided individual mentoring to help dentists develop surgery and implantology as part of their clinical repertoire. He also supervised two dissertation projects each academic year and was an examiner in implant dentistry for both the University and for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He is published and in 2018, was admitted as a fellow of the Faculty of General Dental Practice by election in recognition of the contribution he has made to the profession and the faculty during the course of his career. He was nominated in recognition of his work as an examiner, appraiser and tutor in implant dentistry and his service to the faculty as Chair of Examiners for the diploma in implant dentistry.
Treatments offered
As a specialist oral surgeon and general dental surgeon, Jonathan’s clinical practice is dedicated to the placement, restoration and maintenance of dental implants together with the extraction of teeth and surgical management of infection. He’s experienced in hard tissue grafting and manipulation, including ramus, chin and sinus grafting as well as the use of particulate biomaterials.
Jonathan is an expert witness in dental implantology for Dental Protection and has been involved in numerous high value cases. He’s been subject to cross examination as an expert in court and at the General Dental Council.
