Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, David Van As is a GDC-registered specialist in periodontics and holds membership with the British Dental Association and British Society of Periodontology.

Training and qualifications

David graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physiology (1986) and BChD in Dentistry (1991) from the University of Stellenbosch.

David emigrated to the United Kingdom in 2004. His keen interest in oral surgery and oral medicine saw him complete an MSc in oral surgery at the University of Central Lancashire in 2013, followed by an MSc in periodontology (awarded with distinction) in 2016 at the International Medical College, Germany.

David has subsequently completed the MClinDent in periodontology (awarded with distinction) at the College of Medicine and Dentistry in Birmingham, where he now teaches at postgraduate level.

He recently completed an MSc in craniofacial trauma reconstruction (also awarded with distinction) at Queen Mary College, University of London.
