David graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physiology (1986) and BChD in Dentistry (1991) from the University of Stellenbosch. his keen interest in oral surgery and oral medicine saw he complete an MSc in oral surgery at the University of Central Lancashire in 2013, followed by an MSc in periodontology (awarded with distinction) in 2016 at the International Medical College, Germany. David has subsequently completed the MClinDent in periodontology (awarded with distinction) at the College of Medicine and Dentistry in Birmingham, where he now teaches at postgraduate level. He recently completed an MSc in craniofacial trauma reconstruction (also awarded with distinction) at Queen Mary College, University of London.

David emigrated to the United Kingdom in 2004.
