Sulaman is a specialist periodontist, having qualified at Guy's Dental Hospital, London. This has included the prestigious role as the in-house dentist at the University of Cambridge, where Sulaman provided a wide range of dental services. They also regularly attends hands-on courses, including training in advanced aesthetic and restorative dentistry courses.

Sulaman has taken on various roles in general practice. Sulaman has also worked as a senior house officer, with rotations in a number of departments including oral surgery, oral medicine, sedation special care, restorative and acute dental care. Sulaman has a keen interest in the management of anxious patients and has completed a diploma in conscious sedation at Guy's Dental Hospital. Sulaman has also undertaken various voluntary roles including a placement with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, and is involved in rolling out an oral health promotion campaign targeted at young school children.
