What is Bupa Dental Cover?
Bupa Dental Cover provides cash back towards everyday dental costs, such as dental check-ups, and treatment. It also covers you for dental injury, emergency and oral cancer treatment. We’ll pay up to £150 per policy year for preventative dental treatment such as check-ups and scale and polish. We'll also pay up to 75% of your restorative dental treatment costs up to £700 per policy year. Restorative dental treatment includes:
- fillings
- crowns
- bridges
- extractions
We do cover emergency and injury dental treatment, subject to waiting periods. You’ll also have unlimited cover† for oral cancer treatment following a three month waiting period from the start of your plan.

Oral cavity means mouth, but it doesn't include the whole mouth (we don’t cover tonsils or salivary glands). Your doctor will be able to explain if your issue is within the oral cavity. What’s not covered
Some examples of what’s not covered on this policy:
- Cosmetic treatment
- Dental injury while doing a physical contact sport such as rugby or boxing
- Dental injury as a direct or indirect result of an external impact before the start date of the policy
- Dental treatment resulting from or related to a self-inflicted injury
- Fissure sealants
- Mouthguards
- Orthodontic treatment
- Pre-existing conditions (this means you had symptoms or knew about the condition before you joined the policy, or a dental professional had already recommended the treatment to you before you joined the policy or during your waiting period)
- Surgical implants
- Any treatment in the waiting period when you first join the policy
- Restorative dental treatment received or planned at your first dental examination if you have not had a dental examination in the 24 months before you join the policy

If you visit a participating practice, we can take care of your claim then and there. Or you can make a claim online by using My Bupa, or by post.
Make a claim†You must tell the dentist you have Bupa dental insurance and provide you, membership number prior to you, appointment to benefit from this offer. 10% or 20% discounts are available depending on the practice and the dentist you are seeing. To find the selected Bupa owned and approved network dental practices where this offer is available, see finder.bupa.co.uk and search the Bupa Dental Insurance Network. Discount excludes laboratory fees and specialist treatment and cannot be used against NHS and Bupa Dental Essentials services. Discount cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount.
††We do not cover oral cancer that was diagnosed or for which you had symptoms or investigations before your cover start date.
‡Paid up to benefit allowances. Not available at all practices. Selected Bupa Dental Insurance Network practices forward claims and are agents of Bupa Insurance Limited. Any claims for dental injury treatment and oral cancer cannot be processed by the dental practice. You'll need to complete and send us a claim form for dental injury claims, which can be done through your digital account or by post. For oral cancer claims you will need to call us. All claims for NHS treatment in Scotland and Northern Iceland must be submitted using a claim form.
