Ashley qualified from Bristol in 2003. He completed vocational training in the Royal Army Dental Corps where he served for 20 years, treating servicemen and their families in the UK, Germany, Cyprus and Iraq. He was seconded for two years to train Royal Brunei armed forces dental officers.
