Dental hygiene at Bryer Wallace with Farah Karim
Hello, my name is Farah Green and I'm one of the dental hygienists here at Briar Wallace.
I qualified about 12 years ago now—that was from the Eastman Dental Hospital—and I joined Briar Wallace around 3 years ago.
One of the things that I love about working at Briar Wallace is that I am part of a very big team, and as there are so many clinicians working together, this gives me a huge advantage in managing my patients' individual needs.
So, we're able to discuss cases, hand over cases, and I get to refer my patients to in-house specialists that will focus on their particular need.
Part of our role is to be the support and the foundations for our team members.
So for example, if patients then go on to have treatment, we know we're able to maintain things better.
We're able to guide our patients on how to look after things better and to then avoid further problems in the future.
So as a dental hygienist, we are able to see patients directly.
Through direct access, patients can find us and actually join the practice and book in for hygiene.
We very much treat the patient's mouth as a whole, unlike any of my other clinicians that are homing in on one particular problem.
This gives us a huge advantage in that we're able to lean into prevention, spot early signs of any changes, and get the patient's mouth to a place where it's stable throughout their life—really looking at things from more of a holistic approach.
