Training and qualifications
Richard graduated as a dentist from the University of Glasgow in 2001 and spent the following 20 years serving in the Royal Army Dental Corps.
He undertook specialist training in hospitals across the south of England and subsequently practised at various NHS hospital units whilst moving around the UK with the military, including time spent at Birmingham Dental School.
During his military service he provided clinical care in multiple locations including Germany, England, Scotland and Iraq. One of his most rewarding assignments was in his last four years of service, practising in advanced restorative dentistry. Working alongside restorative consultants at the UK military referral centre, he gained invaluable experience on how to manage complex cases, including injured personnel, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
