After qualifying from Queen’s University Belfast, Siobhan worked in practice in Belfast before taking up a position at Birmingham Dental Hospital. Siobhan then gained her diploma in general dental practice – now known as the membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK) in 1995.

Siobhan went on to work mainly in practice but also as a clinical tutor at Birmingham Dental Hospital and a research assistant with the professor of primary dental care, gaining her MPhil (by research) in 2006.
