About fillings, crowns & veneers
If you have tooth decay, tooth pain, or damaged or discoloured teeth, there are a range of treatment options that can help you achieve a happier and healthy smile. Your dentist may advise fillings, crowns or veneers. With over 350 practices around the UK offering a range of services, these treatments are available at Bupa Dental Care.
Teeth can become damaged by physical wear and tear or by tooth decay, caused primarily by consuming sugary foods and drinks. The type of treatment your dentist recommends will depend on the extent of the damage to your teeth and which teeth are affected. Your dentist will discuss the options with you and plan treatments tailored to your needs.

Fillings repair cavities in your teeth which can help stop toothache and prevent further decay. The procedure involves removing decayed or weakened parts of your tooth and filling the cavity with amalgam (silver filling material) or a tooth-coloured composite.
A crown is a cap which fits over a damaged tooth, improving its appearance and preserving it for the future. Crowns are custom-made from metal or porcelain. Porcelain crowns can match the shade of your existing teeth, creating a natural looking finish.
Veneers are an effective way of repairing chipped, stained or misaligned teeth. The procedure involves attaching a thin layer of tooth-coloured porcelain to the front surface of the tooth. Veneers are a fast and long-lasting way to brighten and straighten your smile.
Why should I restore my teeth?
Restoring damaged teeth can help guard against further damage and decay, preserving the remaining healthy parts of the tooth for the future.
Repairing cavities, chips and cracks can also stop pain and make eating and drinking more comfortable.
Investing in your oral health now can really help you in the long run - ask your dentist about the benefits of fillings, crowns and veneers and understand which option is right for you.
Can fillings, crowns and veneers be treated on the NHS or privately?
Fillings and crowns are usually available on the NHS if treatment is considered clinically necessary, although you will have to pay extra for white fillings and porcelain crowns, which are only available on a private basis.
Veneers, and crowns that are fitted for cosmetic reasons are only available as private treatments.
Our network of Bupa Dental Care practices offer both NHS and private dental services. Learn more about our NHS and private services.
