Hamish GillespieDentists

GDC - 56344 BDS (London 1982), FDS (Royal College of Surgeons of England 1991), MSc (London 2000) Dentist

Hamish is a specialist in oral surgery and served in the army for over 20 years before joining the practice.

Hamish qualified at Guy's Hospital in 1982 and worked in the hospital service as a junior oral and maxillofacial surgeon before being commissioned into the Royal Army Dental Corps in 1988.

He served with the Army in the UK and Germany, in Iraq and Kosovo, and in the United States on loan to the US Army Dental Corps.

He obtained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1991 and is on the General Dental Council's Specialist Register in Oral Surgery.

In 2000, he completed the MSc programme at the Eastman Dental Hospital and was awarded the Master of Science in Conservative Dentistry from University College, London, with distinction. He was joint winner of the 3M Dental Prize in the same year.

Hamish left the army in 2009 to join the practice as a general dentist. He is also appointed as Clinical Teaching Fellow in the department of fixed and removable prosthodontics at Leeds Dental Institute, where he helps teach a new generation of undergraduate dental students.

He is a straight-talking dentist who believes that dental health is achievable and worthwhile for everyone: "What most of my patients really need is caring, preventative dentistry, done extraordinarily well. I want them to be well-informed about their diagnosis, and about the choices available to them, so that they can invest confidently in their dental health. My aim in treatment is to achieve a predictable result, with a responsible level of intervention, and with a reasonable expenditure of time, money and effort."

No, orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more common. We can talk through your options with you.

We do understand that some people really struggle with dental treatment. But we have lots of ways to help put you at ease. Please just tell us how you feel and what worries you, and then we can work together to decide on the right approach.

Generally we recommend twice yearly check-ups every six months. However, this varies on a case by case basis. Your Bupa Dental Care dentist will talk to you about when and how often we need to see you.

Fillings repair small holes in your tooth enamel. If they aren’t filled, the decay will deepen. You’ll start to feel pain, and you could end up needing root canal treatment, which is much more significant and costs more. So although you might not feel pain right now, it’s best to repair these holes as soon as possible.
