Pre-existing conditions, and ailments related to it, are often excluded from your employees's policy because health insurance is designed to treat new conditions that occur after their cover has started.
As well as pre-existing conditions, the main exclusions from our insurance policy for small business' are listed below. Please refer to the Bupa Membership Guide for our complete list of exclusions. This will be provided by your Bupa representative.
Ageing, menopause and puberty, accident and emergency treatment, allergies, allergic disorders or food intolerances, birth control, conception and sexual problems, gender dysphoria and gender reassignment, chronic conditions, cosmetic, reconstructive or weight loss treatment, deafness, dialysis, eyesight, pregnancy and childbirth, screening, monitoring and preventative treatment, sleep problems and disorders, speech disorders and varicose veins.
††For new customers purchasing directly from Bupa only. A different version of Select Custom is available for renewal customers, and for customers purchasing via an intermediary or asking for a comparable quote directly from Bupa.
‡‡When we say benefits are paid in full – this is for eligible treatment on your core health insurance when you use a healthcare facility within your chosen Bupa network using a Bupa-recognised consultant who agrees to charge within Bupa limits (a fee-assured consultant) or a Bupa-recognised complementary medicine practitioner.
††With Bupa cancer cover there are no time limits. All eligible treatment costs and evidence-based breakthrough cancer drugs and treatments that your scheme covers are paid in full for as long as you have Bupa health cover. You must use a hospital or health centre from the Bupa network and a consultant that we recognise and charges within Bupa rates (a fee-assured consultant). Please check your certificate or guide to see which specific list of advanced therapies your employer has selected as it may not cover all advanced therapies.
‡‡‡Existing in-patient, out-patient and day case benefit limits and exclusions for pre-existing conditions still apply to our cover for mental health conditions.

†Terms and conditions
- In these terms and conditions, references to “Bupa” are to Bupa Insurance Limited, which may act through its agent Bupa Insurance Services Limited.
- Subject to these terms and conditions, eligible clients will receive access to one free Bupa Be.Reassured Health Assessment (the “Health Assessment”) for each main member (“Members”) covered when purchasing a new Bupa Select Company PMI Policy (the “Select Policy”) for up to 10 members (the “Offer”). The Offer cannot be used against any other Bupa product or service. Bupa Health Assessments are provided by Bupa Occupational Health Limited.
- The Offer is available to UK registered small or medium sized corporate entities (including, for example, companies, partnerships, and associations) covering between 2 and 10 Members inclusive (“SMEs”) who purchase a new Select Policy directly from Bupa.
- The Offer is available to new or switching SME clients only and is not available for the following:
- a. SME clients who purchase their Select Policy to cover more than 10 Members; or
- b. SME clients who purchase their Select Policy through an intermediary; or
- c. existing Bupa clients who hold a policy for any Bupa product or service.
- Free Health Assessments must be booked on or before the date falling 3 months after the Select Policy start date (the “Booking Period”) and will be available during this period subject to the Select Policy being active.
- The Offer is only available for new or switching SME clients for whom a quote is provided for a Select Policy between 1 July 2022 and 29 July 2022 inclusive. Quotes are valid for 28 days and the Select Policy must have a start date between 1 July 2022 and 29 July 2022 inclusive. Bupa’s standard Terms of Business and Bupa Select Policy Terms & Conditions will apply.
- The Offer will not be applied in subsequent policy years and will not be available to Members who are added to the Select Policy after it has started. Members who are removed from the Select policy will no longer be eligible to claim a free Health Assessment. If you wish to continue to have access to Health Assessments for Members after the Booking Period, or if you wish to offer Health Assessments to new joiners after the Select Policy start date, you must request this and pay any applicable fees and charges.
- Health Assessments are carried out at Bupa Health Centres. Not all types of Health Assessments are available at each Bupa Health Centre. For details of our Health Assessments, see bupa.co.uk/business/health-wellbeing-services/employee-health-assessments and for the locations of Bupa’s Health Centres, see finder.bupa.co.uk
- Appointments for Health Assessments are subject to availability. Members must contact the Health Assessment booking team directly on 0345 604 0612 to arrange an appointment. Bookings cannot be made online. All appointments must be made at least 5 working days in advance.
- A cancellation policy applies to all Health Assessments booked but not attended. Members can change or cancel their Health Assessment appointment up to 5 working days before their scheduled appointment. If the Member cancels with less than 5 working days’ notice, or does not attend the appointment, the Member will lose eligibility for the free Health Assessment.
- Bupa reserves the right to decline to offer a Select Policy in its absolute discretion, and Bupa’s decision regarding any aspect of this promotion is final.
- Bupa reserves the right to cancel, suspend, amend or withdraw the Offer at any point without prior notice.
- The Offer is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, has no cash value/alternative and cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotions or offers except for Bupa’s free 2-year fixed price offer (the “Fixed Price Offer”) which allows new SME clients to fix the price of the Select Policy for 2 years subject to separate terms and conditions. The Fixed Price Offer is not available for the following:
- a. SME clients who are switching from an alternative company health insurance provider; or
- b. SME clients who purchase their Select Policy through an intermediary; or
- c. existing Bupa clients who hold a policy for any Bupa product or service for the benefit of their employees.
- The Fixed Price Offer guarantees the price of the Select Policy for 2 years. However, this is not protected from any increases in Insurance Premium Tax (“IPT”) at the first renewal. Changes to Members on the Select Policy made during the 2-year fixed period may also affect the price at the first renewal, although the rate per member will remain fixed. Examples of changes to the Select Policy include (but are not limited to): adding or removing members from the Select Policy, complimentary babies becoming paid-for child dependants at the first renewal, and child-dependants reaching the age of 24 during the first fixed year who would then be required to pay the adult rate in the second fixed year.
- Please note, you may not be able to amend the benefit options of the Select Policy at your first renewal when choosing the Fixed Price Offer. Examples of benefit options include facility access, out-patient limits and levels of excess.
- When calculating renewal prices for a Select Policy after the Fixed Price Offer has ended, Bupa considers additional factors such as (but not limited to) claims history, age of members, the rising cost of healthcare and IPT, which will be factored into each year’s renewal subscription.
- Bupa will use any personal information in accordance with its privacy notice which can be found at bupa.co.uk/privacy
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bupa and its group companies shall not be liable to the SME client or any of its employees for any claims, damages or any other losses whatsoever under or in connection with the operation of the Offer.
- These terms & conditions shall be governed by English law and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
