Training and qualifications

In 2018, Sam graduated from Newcastle University with a distinction in clinical dentistry. He then worked in Sunderland, both in a practice setting, and as a senior house officer in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department of Sunderland Royal Hospital.

He has completed several postgraduate courses including courses in SmileFast and the Invisalign system to straighten teeth. He’s also currently undertaking a course in dental implant placement.

Training and qualifications

Since qualifying as a dentist, James has completed a number of postgraduate courses in restorative, implant, surgical, digital and cosmetic dentistry, including orthodontics. He completed a diploma in restorative dentistry and provides advanced treatments for the most complex of cases.

James has completed numerous dental implant courses and to compliment this training, has travelled to the highly respected Urban Regeneration Institute in Budapest to undertake advanced training in bone and soft tissue regeneration. James has also travelled to Munich to train at the world-renowned Hurzeler/Zuhr Dental Education Institute. He continues to travel nationally and internationally to learn from leaders in their fields to advance his skills. He has also attended a number of facial aesthetic courses.

James is treasurer of the North East Private Dentist Group and is heavily involved in organising continual professional development for North East dentists.

Training and qualifications

After qualifying, Tim worked in general practice for four years in Bedlington, Durham and South Shields, before joining and then buying into a partnership in Wallsend.

Tim has always been committed to continuing postgraduate education, allowing him to practise modern dentistry and particularly his field of interest, endodontics (root canal treatment). He has lectured on this subject in the north east since 2002, where he also completed extended endodontic training in 2007, after completing other courses in Switzerland and Santa Barbara, USA.

After passing his membership of Faculty of General Dental Practice at the Royal College of Surgeons, he became regional tutor for this qualification, from 2006 to 2010. Tim joined our practice in 2014 and is proud to be part of a team of highly trained staff with areas of expertise for which many patients are referred, both internally as well as from other practices. He loves the practice's dedication to ensuring patients receive great care and support.

No, orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more common. We can talk through your options with you.

We do understand that some people really struggle with dental treatment. But we have lots of ways to help put you at ease. Please just tell us how you feel and what worries you, and then we can work together to decide on the right approach.

Generally we recommend twice yearly check-ups every six months. However, this varies on a case by case basis. Your Bupa Dental Care dentist will talk to you about when and how often we need to see you.

Fillings repair small holes in your tooth enamel. If they aren’t filled, the decay will deepen. You’ll start to feel pain, and you could end up needing root canal treatment, which is much more significant and costs more. So although you might not feel pain right now, it’s best to repair these holes as soon as possible.
