Dental implants in Plymouth
Transit Way Dental & Implant Clinic offers a full range of implant treatments, from single implants through to smile in a day treatment and full arch restorations. We can also help if you have failing dental implants that need restoring.
Sometimes, supporting procedures are needed before your implant can be placed. We provide all these procedures at the practice, including bone grafting, block grafting, sinus lifts and soft tissue grafts. This means you can have all your treatment at the practice, without the need to be referred elsewhere.
We also have our own CBCT scanner. This allows our dentists to examine the condition of your jaw, check your suitability for implants and see where they should be placed.
Smile in a day treatment – For a full set of replacement teeth in one day
As well as single implants, we also provide more extensive full-mouth reconstructions using smile in a day treatment. This involves replacing lots of loose, missing or failing teeth with a full set of dental implants. You can arrive at our practice in the morning and leave in the afternoon with a full set of fixed teeth. Get in touch to find out more.
Meet our implant team
Our implant dentist, Alex, has been placing dental implants in Devon and Cornwall since 2005. He joined our practice in 2015 and has completed several postgraduate courses in the field of implants and oral surgery.
Alex is supported by Suresh, a visiting dentist who has been placing implants since 2012. He holds an MSc in Dental Implantology from the University of Bristol and has extensive training in bone grafting procedures.
Support through your implant journey
From your first enquiry to your brand new smile, our treatment coordinator will be there to support you. She’s a qualified dental nurse who will be able to answer any questions or reassure you about the procedure.
With proper care, your implants can last as long as natural, healthy teeth. We put a focus on aftercare and can help you look after your implants following treatment, to ensure you get the most out of them.
Referrals
We accept dentist referrals for implants, supporting treatments and CBCT scans. If you’d like to learn more about our referral services, get in touch or refer a patient here.
Implant procedure
Learn about the step-by-step treatment process for having dental implants, from your initial consultation right through to aftercare.
First, you’ll have a free* phone consultation with one of our dedicated treatment coordinators. We’ll talk you through your options, give you an indication of price and can book you in for an initial assessment with your implant dentist if you choose to go ahead.
Clinical assessment
Next, you’ll have a clinical assessment to make sure you’re eligible for treatment. Your dentist will take X-rays and decide exactly where your implants need to be placed. They’ll also talk you through the cost of treatment and let you know if you need a supporting treatment, such as a bone graft.
Placing your implants
This is where your dental implants are fixed into your jawbone. It’s a surgical procedure normally performed under local anaesthetic, so it’s relatively pain-free. If you feel nervous, your dentist may be able to offer sedation to put you at ease. Your bone and gums will need time to heal before attaching your replacement teeth, so we’ll fit you with some temporary teeth until you’re ready.
Fitting your replacement teeth
It’s normal to wait four to eight months for the implant to fully integrate with your jawbone, before your permanent, replacement teeth are fitted. They will be custom-made to fit the size, shape and colour of your existing teeth.
Aftercare
Keeping your implants clean and healthy is no more difficult than it is with your natural teeth. But if you find any areas tricky to reach, or if you come across any problems, we’re here to help. We’ll provide you with all the aftercare advice you need to have a successful implant.
No, orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more common. We can talk through your options with you.
We do understand that some people really struggle with dental treatment. But we have lots of ways to help put you at ease. Please just tell us how you feel and what worries you, and then we can work together to decide on the right approach.
Generally we recommend twice yearly check-ups every six months. However, this varies on a case by case basis. Your Bupa Dental Care dentist will talk to you about when and how often we need to see you.
Fillings repair small holes in your tooth enamel. If they aren’t filled, the decay will deepen. You’ll start to feel pain, and you could end up needing root canal treatment, which is much more significant and costs more. So although you might not feel pain right now, it’s best to repair these holes as soon as possible.
