Kevin has been with the practice since 2019 and brings a wealth of experience in providing quality dental care. Known as the gentle giant (Kevin is 6’5”), he is passionate about helping his patients to maintain excellent oral hygiene. His empathetic, caring nature is a real asset, particularly when working with nervous patients. Outside of dentistry Kevin enjoys time out with his family - who are very theatrical and sporty and keep him very busy - and he always finds time to support his childhood team Torquay United.

Ruth Potterton qualified as a dental hygienist and dental therapist from Bart’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Training and qualifications

Being awarded the Ash Award for the highest grade in final examinations and The Old Londoners Award for most supportive student. She is competent in providing dental treatment under inhalation sedation and continues to complete further courses to ensure continued professional development.

Ruth has been a clinical supervisor at Peninsula Dental School since 2010, and after developing an interest in clinical education, obtained the position of lecturer in Community Based Dentistry at University of Plymouth Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, member of the Faculty of Dental Trainers RCSEd, and member of the College of General Dentistry.

Clinically, Ruth has worked in general and private practice, dental hospitals and the salaried (community) dental service, treating a wide variety of patients including children, adults, those with a dental phobia or with additional needs.

Her current working week is divided between teaching at Peninsula Dental School and clinical work in general and private dental practice. In her spare time, Ruth enjoys pilates and ballet classes, visits to the theatre, music concerts and festivals.

No, orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more common. We can talk through your options with you.

We do understand that some people really struggle with dental treatment. But we have lots of ways to help put you at ease. Please just tell us how you feel and what worries you, and then we can work together to decide on the right approach.

Generally we recommend twice yearly check-ups every six months. However, this varies on a case by case basis. Your Bupa Dental Care dentist will talk to you about when and how often we need to see you.

Fillings repair small holes in your tooth enamel. If they aren’t filled, the decay will deepen. You’ll start to feel pain, and you could end up needing root canal treatment, which is much more significant and costs more. So although you might not feel pain right now, it’s best to repair these holes as soon as possible.
