Bupa Dental Care Westbourne
Dental implants at Bupa Dental Care Westbourne
Find out more about our implant dentist and the range of implants treatments we offer, whether you need one or many teeth replaced.
20 years’ experience placing dental implants
Our treatments range from single implants, implant-supported bridges and dentures, and full-arch procedures. We offer smile in a day treatment, where a full arch of missing teeth are replaced using dental implants in the same day. You can walk into the practice in the morning and out in the afternoon with a full set of fixed teeth. We see patients from across Dorset including Bournemouth, Poole, Lymington and beyond.
Some patients need supporting treatments such as bone grafts or sinus lifts before their implants can be placed. We provide these services at the practice too. We’ll let you know if you need a supporting treatment and will reassure and support you throughout the procedure.
Our implant dentist
Our implant dentist, Jasper, has been placing implants for 20 years. Jasper is popular for the calming manner he has developed over many years and his empathy for nervous patients.
Jasper accepts referrals from other dentists for all his implant treatment. If you’re another dentist looking for someone with expertise in implants, get in touch.
Personalised implant care
We have a treatment coordinator at the practice who will personally guide you through your implant journey with us. Our practice manager is also on-hand to provide support and answer any questions if needed.
Our clinicians can provide all the aftercare you need to make sure you get the most out of your implants. If cared for properly, implants can last as long as healthy natural teeth.
Implant procedure
Learn about the step-by-step treatment process for having dental implants, from your initial consultation right through to aftercare.
First, you’ll have a free* phone consultation with one of our dedicated treatment coordinators. We’ll talk you through your options, give you an indication of price and can book you in for an initial assessment with your implant dentist if you choose to go ahead.
Clinical assessment
Next, you’ll have a clinical assessment to make sure you’re eligible for treatment. Your dentist will take X-rays and decide exactly where your implants need to be placed. They’ll also talk you through the cost of treatment and let you know if you need a supporting treatment, such as a bone graft.
Placing your implants
This is where your dental implants are fixed into your jawbone. It’s a surgical procedure normally performed under local anaesthetic, so it’s relatively pain-free. If you feel nervous, your dentist may be able to offer sedation to put you at ease. Your bone and gums will need time to heal before attaching your replacement teeth, so we’ll fit you with some temporary teeth until you’re ready.
Fitting your replacement teeth
It’s normal to wait four to eight months for the implant to fully integrate with your jawbone, before your permanent, replacement teeth are fitted. They will be custom-made to fit the size, shape and colour of your existing teeth.
Aftercare
Keeping your implants clean and healthy is no more difficult than it is with your natural teeth. But if you find any areas tricky to reach, or if you come across any problems, we’re here to help. We’ll provide you with all the aftercare advice you need to have a successful implant.
No, orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more common. We can talk through your options with you.
We do understand that some people really struggle with dental treatment. But we have lots of ways to help put you at ease. Please just tell us how you feel and what worries you, and then we can work together to decide on the right approach.
Generally we recommend twice yearly check-ups every six months. However, this varies on a case by case basis. Your Bupa Dental Care dentist will talk to you about when and how often we need to see you.
Fillings repair small holes in your tooth enamel. If they aren’t filled, the decay will deepen. You’ll start to feel pain, and you could end up needing root canal treatment, which is much more significant and costs more. So although you might not feel pain right now, it’s best to repair these holes as soon as possible.
