Bupa Smile Plan for Under 18s
Developing good dental habits in early years is essential to protecting young teeth and can set your children up for a lifetime of good oral health.
Bupa Smile Plan for Under 18s is a dental payment plan that supports your child’s oral health with routine care, regular appointments and selected children’s treatments from just £4.99 per month.
Why choose Bupa Smile Plan?
It’s not always easy to make visiting the dentist a priority. Bupa Smile Plan lets you commit to regular dental appointments and maintain a good level of oral health, which in turn supports your overall wellbeing.
Regular monitoring means your dentist can spot concerns - such as tooth decay and gum disease - before they worsen, or provide treatment to avoid them altogether. At every check-up, your dentist also screens for mouth cancer, which affects one in 55 men and one in 108 women UK-wide5.
With Bupa Smile Plan, you benefit from:
- Manageable payments to help you budget for routine appointments
- A saving of up to 20%1 on included check-up and hygiene appointments
- Expert dental advice with plenty of time to raise any concerns you may have
- Regular preventative care - avoid future oral concerns that carry additional costs
- 10%2 saving on selected private dental treatments†
- Private alternative to NHS with reduced waiting times
- A committed plan to encourage you to attend the dentist regularly
How much does it cost?

Your monthly payments = the discounted1 cost of your planned private check-ups and hygiene appointments at your practice, divided by 12 and rounded to the nearest 50p.
Remember, with Routine and Enhanced plans, the cost of your included check-up and hygiene appointments is up to 10%1 cheaper than if you book on a pay as you go basis.
and for our Young Adult plans, these appointments are up to 20%1 cheaper than when booked as standalone appointments. Prices for check-up and hygiene appointments vary per practice – calculate the price of Bupa Smile Plan at your practice.
How do I pay?
The 12 monthly payments are collected via direct debit.
Registration fee
There is a one-off set-up fee of £10, which will be taken around the time of your first monthly payment. Aside from this fee, you won’t pay any extra for signing up to the plan.
What's the difference between dental insurance and Bupa Smile Plan?
A dental payment plan and a dental insurance policy are different ways of paying for your dental care. Put simply, Bupa Smile Plan spreads the cost of your routine check-ups and hygiene appointments throughout the year. An insurance policy can cover routine and restorative treatment for a monthly fee, what is included is based on your budget allocation.

Simple sign up
Bupa Smile Plan is quick and easy to set up online, on the phone or in person at a practice. Many of our practices also offer online booking, making it simpler than ever to get the appointments you need.
Your contract of care is between you and Oasis Dental Care Limited, trading as Bupa Dental Care, which operates your Bupa Dental Care practice. Your Agreement consists of three documents: these terms, your Plan Details on the Portal, and Bupa's Privacy Policy. All are available on the Bupa Smile Plan Portal.
Your payments will be collected via Direct Debit . Bupa Dental Care will appear on your bank statement.
You'll cover the annual cost of your plan via 12 monthly payments. Your first payment will cover the period from your start date to the end of that calendar month, plus the following full calendar month.
Your monthly Bupa Smile Plan fee is calculated using the private treatment costs at your practice, minus any Bupa Smile Plan discounts. The cost of your agreed appointments is split into 12 monthly instalments, making budgeting easier. A one-off registration fee of £10 applies when you first set up your subscription. You won't be charged a registration fee again on renewal even if you change your plan type or you transfer to another Bupa practice.
Your fee may be reviewed at any time, although this will typically happen in April. If your fee changes, you'll receive at least 30 days' written notice. Any changes will take effect from your next billing date. If you're unhappy with a fee change and wish to cancel, we'll process your cancellation without any further charge.
To purchase a Bupa Smile Plan subscription, you must be aged 18 or over and resident in the UK. Any patient included in a plan must also be resident in the UK throughout the subscription period.
Your Bupa Smile Plan gives you access to the dental services set out in your Plan Details on the Portal. Services are provided at the clinical discretion of your treating clinician and in line with General Dental Council standards. Your specific entitlements — including the number of appointments, X-rays and any applicable discounts — are confirmed in your Plan Details.
Your plan does not cover:
- Pharmaceutical items, prescription fees, third-party fees (for example referral to another practice for a CT scan or X-ray) or laboratory fees.
- Dental appointments, advice or treatment provided by a dental practitioner who is not a Bupa clinician at the practice or who does not offer services under the plan.
- the cost of any specialist treatment or advice provided by a specialist dentist if the Bupa clinician makes such a referral during an appointment covered under your plan.
Additional exclusions specific where applicable to your plan will be set out in your Plan Details on the Portal.
Discounts on selected private dental treatments may be included in your plan, where applicable. The full details of any discount — including which treatments are covered and the discount level — are set out in your Plan Details on the Portal.
Where a discount applies to your plan, details of any excluded treatments will be set out in your Plan Details on the Portal.
Your Bupa Smile Plan entitlements are available over a full 12-month subscription period from your commencement date. On each renewal date, your entitlements reset — unused services cannot be carried over to the following year. We recommend spreading your appointments throughout the year.
If you need to update any of your personal details (address, bank account etc.), log in to your account on the Bupa Smile Plan Portal and follow the simple instructions. It's important to keep your contact details up to date — if we're unable to reach you, this may affect the renewal of your subscription.
If you need to change your Bupa Dental Care practice, please contact us so we can confirm any changes to your fees and guide you through the transfer process. Any change in your monthly fee will take effect from the first day of the following month, provided we receive more than seven days' notice where payments are made by Direct Debit. You will not be charged a registration fee when transferring to a new practice.
If you want to set up more than one plan (for example, one for yourself and one for your partner), you can use the same e mail address if you plan to manage all the plans yourself. If each plan is to be managed and paid for by the individual plan holder, a separate e mail address will be required for each person.
Your Bupa Smile Plan agreement is between you and your Bupa Dental Care practice. Clinical services are provided by the treating clinician at the practice, not directly by Bupa. While we would expect you to receive your ongoing care from your usual dentist, it may be necessary for another Bupa clinician to care for you from time to time.
You can cancel your Bupa Smile Plan at any time by contacting your practice and providing 30 days' notice. We'll refund any fees you've paid for the period after your subscription ends. If you're cancelling because you're unhappy with a fee change, we'll process the cancellation without any further charge. Please remember to cancel your Direct Debit after your final payment has been taken.
Yes. You have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date you purchase your subscription, or your commencement date, whichever is later. You can cancel by contacting your practice during this period. If the patient has not used the services, you'll receive a full refund of fees paid — however, the registration fee is non-refundable. If the patient receives treatment during the cooling-off period, you'll be required to pay for those services and will not benefit from the full 14-day cooling-off right.
After your 14-day cooling-off period, your Bupa Smile Plan can be cancelled at any time by contacting your practice and providing 30 days' notice. Please note that if you cancel and the value of treatment the patient has received exceeds the fees you have paid to that point, we may ask you to pay the difference.
We expect every part of your experience with Bupa Dental Care to reflect our high standards of customer care. If you have any concerns about your dental advice or treatment, please raise these with the Practice Manager in the first instance. If you are not satisfied with the response, please see our complaints process for further information.
If you miss one monthly payment, your plan will be suspended and you'll be notified by email. We'll attempt to collect the payment again at least four working days later. While your plan is suspended, you won't be able to access dental services. If two consecutive monthly payments are missed, your subscription will be cancelled automatically. You'll receive email confirmation and you're responsible for informing the patient that the subscription has ended.
Your subscription depends on your chosen practice being part of the Bupa group. If your practice stops being part of the Bupa group or is removed from the approved practice list, your subscription will automatically end. We'll let you know if this happens and explain your options.
Bupa Smile Plan services can only be used in the UK (Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man). If you or the patient named on your plan cease to be resident in the UK, your subscription will end. Fees paid for any remaining period will be refunded.
If your plan includes age-based eligibility — specifically the Bupa Smile Plan Under 18s and the Bupa Smile Plan for Young Adults — your plan will automatically move to the next applicable plan once the patient reaches the upper age limit of their current plan. The details of the plan you will move to are set out in your Plan Details on the Portal. You will be notified of any changes to your fees in advance.
Terms and conditions apply. Applicants and applicants on behalf of the patient must be 18 or over. Payments are collected by monthly Direct Debit.
