How much do dental implants cost?

The last known national survey on the average cost of dental implants in the UK was carried out by Dentistry Magazine in 2015. This revealed that at the time, private dentists charged on average £2,4151 for a single tooth implant, although the cost of implant treatment will vary depending on your individual needs. It is likely that this average price is now much higher.

The specific cost of your treatment plan will need to be discussed with your dentist during your clinical assessment. Your dentist will give you a clear, detailed breakdown of costs before going ahead with any treatment, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

Can I get dental implants on the NHS?

Dental implants are only available on the NHS in rare cases. For example, if you’ve lost teeth following a serious accident or due to mouth cancer. Usually, you will have to pay for dental implants privately.

How are the costs of dental implants determined?

Dental implant treatment requires a surgical procedure, which means the work involved can cost more than other solutions for replacing missing teeth, such as fitting dentures.

At Bupa Dental Care, we only use established brands of dental implants. The implant fixture and abutment (a small post attached to the top of the implant, which in-turn supports the false tooth) are usually made of titanium, while the false tooth, also known as a crown, is normally made from porcelain or ceramic to achieve a natural finish. In comparison, a denture is usually made of acrylic, which is a type of plastic. Sometimes, an implant supports an acrylic denture.

The false tooth, or crown, that is attached to your implant is custom-made by a dental technician to ensure that it is similar in shape, size and colour to your existing teeth. So, the implant should fit snugly into your gum and blend naturally into your smile.
