Health insurance is often referred to as private medical insurance. It gives you access to private healthcare for conditions that:

  • are covered by your policy
  • and develop after your policy starts

One of the main benefits of health insurance is fast access to medical treatment.

Bupa health insurance covers you for acute conditions. This means disease, illness or injury that are likely to respond quickly to treatment. The policy covers you for acute conditions that begin after your policy starts. Pre-existing conditions may not be covered.

Where you have treatment will vary depending on where you live and the type of treatment you need. This could be in a private hospital, health centre or private section of an NHS hospital.

There are general exclusions which are not covered as standard within our health insurance policies. For example the long-term treatment and monitoring of chronic conditions or cosmetic surgery.

We’ll also need to know about any pre-existing conditions or symptoms you may have. Pre-existing conditions won’t affect the cost of your policy. However, they may affect what your policy will cover you for.
