Booking

Learn how to book and manage your appointments at the touch of a button.

How do I book an appointment?

Remote digital appointments are available 24/7 and you can choose a time that suits you. To book an appointment, select Book Appointment on the home screen. You'll be able to choose:

  • Who the appointment is for.
  • An appointment topic or the type of clinician you want to see.
  • A phone or video call (video is better for visible symptoms).
  • The date and time of your appointment.

To help us give you the best care, you'll also need to tell us why you're booking. This could be a symptom or condition.

You should add a photo if there's something you want to show your clinician.

All appointment availability is shown in the Bupa Blua Health app. If your preferred time isn't available, you can try checking back later in case of any cancellations.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Depending on the time of day that you book, you can usually get an appointment within 24 hours, and often appointments are available in less than 30 minutes. You can also choose to book for another time and date that is convenient for you should your preferred time not be available.

Bupa Blua Health appointments are available 24/7, including bank holidays.

Can I choose my clinician?

When booking, you can choose the next available clinician, or you can choose to view the available appointments with:

  • A clinician you've seen before.
  • A female or male clinician.

To see more options, select show all available appointments when choosing the date and time of your appointment.

You will need the latest version of the app to access this feature. Please make sure you have the most up-to-date version of the app installed.

Our clinicians work varied rotas which can change or get booked up. If you are trying to book with the same clinician and there are no appointments showing, try choosing a different timeframe and applying the filters again

If your preferred time isn't available, you can try booking with a different clinician. All our clinicians are fully qualified and will have access to your Bupa Blua Health record, including your consultation notes for your appointment.

Can I book an appointment with a nurse?

Yes, remote nurse appointments are available via the Bupa Blua Health app.

Who are the clinicians?

Each clinician accessible through Bupa Blua Health is registered with the appropriate medical authority e.g. GPs are registered with the GMC.

Verifying your identity

Before we can discuss your medical history and prescribe medicine, we need to verify your identity. You'll be asked to verify your identity when you book your first appointment.

You’ll need to:

  • Take a photo of your ID – you can use your passport, driving license, ID card or residence permit.
  • Take a selfie – we only use this to compare with your ID. It should only take a minute and you only need to do it once.

When taking a photo of your ID, make sure:

  • All corners of your ID in the photo frame.
  • To avoid direct light over your document as this can cause glare.
  • The image is clear and readable.

The name you have registered with us needs to match your ID document. Here's how to update your personal details.

I can’t attend my appointment, can I reschedule?

If you can no longer attend your appointment, you can cancel your appointment by following these steps:

  • Open Bupa Blua Health app.
  • Go to Me > Notifications.
  • Go to your appointment notification.
  • Tap Cancel appointment > Confirm cancellation reason.

If you still need to speak to a clinician, the easiest way to do this is to book another appointment using the app.

If you think you're having technical difficulties or connection issues, please ensure you have good WiFi or mobile internet connection before the time of your appointment.

How do I cancel my appointment?

If you can't attend your appointment, please cancel as soon as possible using the Bupa Blua Health app. This frees your slot for another patient and prevents Bupa from incurring unnecessary costs.

You can do this by following these simple steps:

  • Open Bupa Blua Health.
  • Tap on the upcoming appointment.
  • Tap Cancel appointment.

After you've entered your reason for cancelling, you'll receive an email confirming the appointment has been cancelled.

What if I want my regular GP to know about my Bupa Blua Health appointment?

When booking your appointment, you can choose to have a summary of your Bupa appointment sent to your regular GP.

  • Confirm time and type of appointment.
  • Under Do you want to keep your GP informed? tap Yes, keep my GP informed.
  • Enter your GP details > Save.

We aim to send your consultation summary to your NHS GP practice within 5 working days of the Bupa appointment.

What are your operating hours?

You can book a digital consultation with a Bupa clinician using the Bupa Blua Health app 24/7, including all bank holidays. If you have a question or issue, you can contact our support team.

What device do I need to have an appointment?

You can speak to a clinician using either an iPhone or Android smartphone via the Bupa Blua Health app.

iOS

You need an iPhone 5S or higher running at least iOS12. The app is compatible with iPad and iPod touch, but for the best experience, use Bupa Blua Health on your phone.

Android

You'll need Android v5 or higher. We recommend your Android device has 2GB of RAM, 300MB of storage and a quad core CPU of 2.0GHz.

You'll need to be connected to the internet. Where possible we recommend using Wi-Fi, rather than 4G/5G, as this usually gives the most reliable connection.

From time to time, the app may be updated. We recommend that you always use the latest version of the app to take advantage of the latest enhancements.

What is the length of my appointment?

Your appointment is 10 minutes long so we would advise discussing only 1 or 2 health issues in that time to get the advice you need.

If you feel your appointment will take longer than 10 minutes, we advise booking an extra slot. The clinician will advise in the call if they feel it is necessary that you book a further appointment. Should you have any questions about this, please contact our support team.

Can I use this service abroad?

Even though Bupa Blua Health is a UK-based service, you can download the app and use some features of the app from anywhere.

While you can speak to a UK clinician from most countries, our services follow UK laws and regulations.

However, there are some countries from which you cannot speak to a UK clinician through Bupa Blua Health.

  • USA
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • Germany
  • China

Before booking, please check for any local restrictions on consulting with a clinician outside of the country where you are currently situated.

Why are you unable to consult in some countries?

We are only able to consult in certain countries due to varying rules and regulations on telemedicine and virtual consultations around the world.
