We’re always looking for ways to improve our products and services, and our healthcare experts have been working hard to make them simpler and more flexible for you.

Your policy is changing to Bupa Health which has a range of cover options to match our customers’ individual needs.

Cover is more comprehensive, with improved benefits. We’ve also changed the no claims discount, increasing the maximum discount available from 30% to 45%.

You’ll find all the details you need in your renewal pack which will be with you shortly. If you’re happy with your Bupa Health policy, you don’t need to do anything – we’ll automatically renew it for you.

Your no claims discount is changing

When you renew, the way your no claims discount works will change.

  • Until now we’ve calculated your no claims discount collectively for you and anyone else covered by your policy. In future, if your policy covers more than one person, we’ll calculate everyone’s no claims discount separately. So, if someone else claims and you don’t, your no claims discount won’t be affected.
  • With Bupa Health, you’ll get a discount of up to 45% depending on whether or not you’ve claimed and the value of any claims you’ve made (it was a maximum of 30% before).
  • With your new policy, we’re increasing the number of discount levels from 7 to 16. Smaller steps on the scale means less of a discount reduction if you do claim and a smaller discount increase if you don’t.
  • On the new scale, small claims will have a smaller impact on your no claims discount than larger ones, and claims up to £300 won't affect your discount at all.

This means if you have a 30% no claims discount now, and don’t claim this year, you can receive further discounts at your next renewal.

We’re also increasing the discount levels from 7 to 16. Smaller steps on the scale means less of a discount reduction if you do claim and a smaller discount increase if you don’t.

And we’ve changed how claims affect your discount. On the new scale we’ll consider the amount you claim, so small claims will have a smaller impact on your no claims discount than larger claims and claims up to £300 won’t affect your discount at all.

All Bupa Health customers have access to more than 1,000 hospitals and clinics across the UK - giving you more choice about where to have your treatment. This is our Participating Hospitals list. You can search for your nearest hospitals by visiting Bupa Finder, our online directory. Simply choose Participating Hospitals instead of Partnership Hospitals when you're given the option to filter your search results.

When you get your renewal pack, your pricing will look different to how it has in the past. You’ll see a price for each person rather than an overall price. This is because you’ll now have the flexibility to choose cover levels and excess options for each person covered on your policy. The renewal price of your policy won’t be affected by this change in pricing approach.

We’ll also no longer remove dependants from your policy when they reach the age of 21 (or 24 if they’re a student) – you can decide how long you want to keep them on your policy.
