Services available in our health centres

We've worked hard to ensure you can still access a range of services for your physical and mental health.

Pay as you go healthcare

If you need to investigate a health concern without delay, our pay as you go healthcare could be what you’re looking for. It offers fast, easy access to services like physiotherapy, health assessments, private GPs, at-home COVID-19 PCR testing kits, and COVID-19 antibody tests.

You don’t need health insurance; simply pay for what you need. And while some services are only available in our health centres, others are available remotely − from the comfort of your own home.

COVID-19 antibody and antigen testing

COVID-19 tests
We now offer PCR home testing kits for individual and business customers, which can tell you if you’re currently infected with COVID-19. You’ll receive a testing kit within 36 hours of ordering, and get your result within 48 hours of the lab receiving your swab.*

COVID-19 rapid antibody tests
Selected health centres also offer COVID-19 rapid antibody tests. This means that within 15 minutes, you could find out if you have detectable antibodies to the virus.**

We’ve done a thorough risk assessment on all aspects of our clinics, including the properties themselves, the tasks we carry out there, the needs of our employees and customers, and coronavirus (COVID-19). This has involved our clinical teams, property teams, and our quality and health & safety teams. The control measures that we then put in place allow us to protect our employees and customers and provide the best service possible. They include:

  • regular asymptomatic staff screening for COVID-19 using lateral flow tests
  • coronavirus symptom screening and temperature check
  • face mask provided for all customers
  • PPE is worn by all staff within a two-metre distance of our customers
  • protective screens at reception
  • staff staying more than two metres away from our customers, wherever possible
  • individual treatment ‘pods’, cleaned before and after use (at use in some centres where appropriate)
  • limited footfall each day, with no walk-ins and staggered start-times for appointments
  • keep left signs and one-way system throughout our clinics
  • revised cleaning schedules throughout our health centres
  • clear signage and guidance on social distancing
  • customers are always escorted by a member of staff throughout their visits

We’ve made some temporary changes to help reduce the amount of face-to-face contact that’s needed. For some appointments, including private GPs and physiotherapy, we’re using technology to offer consulting by webchat or video.

We consider the following tests to be too high-risk for us to carry out at present, therefore we aren’t offering them as part of any of our health assessments for now:

  • Ear, nose and throat examinations (ENT)
  • Lung function tests

We also cannot offer the following, due to cleaning limitations with the testing booths:

  • Hearing tests

Yes, we currently offer the following tests for current infection:

  • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID-19 home-testing kits
  • Rapid antigen testing with lateral flow devices, providing a result within 30 minutes. These aren’t available as one-off tests, but are designed to be used as part of an asymptomatic corporate screening programme.

Selected Bupa health centres also offer rapid COVID-19 antibody testing, which in 15 minutes could let you know if you have detectable antibodies to COVID-19. If you do, it would suggest you’ve previously been infected with COVID-19. The test cannot confirm when you had it or how long any antibodies may last.

At this time, the national focus is quite rightly on ensuring that the coronavirus vaccine is provided first to those who are most in need. That’s why, currently, vaccination is only being done by the NHS. We’re working closely with our suppliers, so when the time is right we plan to offer the vaccine to our corporate customers – just as we do already with the flu vaccine.
