Our discounts will be reviewed on the 12 December 2024 and any changes will then apply to renewals and new quotes taken out after that date. Our quotes are valid for 14 days. Terms and conditions apply.
Health insurance, or private medical insurance, gives you access to private healthcare. It covers all, or some, treatment costs for:
- conditions covered by your policy
- conditions that start after your policy begins
You pay an annual or monthly subscription for your insurance. You'll then have quick access to medical treatment.
We'll cover you for acute conditions after your policy starts. This covers disease, injury or illness that will likely respond quickly to treatment. Pre-existing conditions may not be covered.
Where we treat you may depend on the type of treatment you need and where you live. You may be treated in a private hospital, health centre or private section of an NHS hospital. This will all depend on if your treatment is eligible, is fee assured and there's a hospital within your chosen network.
Some things aren’t covered as standard in our health insurance policies. For example, most policies don't cover emergency treatment, maternity care or pre-existing conditions.
When you take out a policy, we may need to know about any pre-existing conditions or symptoms you have. This depends on the type of underwriting you choose.
There are two types of underwriting, full medical underwriting and rolling moratorium underwriting. Full medical underwriting means you’ll let us know about any pre-existing conditions or symptoms you already have. You’ll then know what you will and won’t be covered for. Rolling moratorium underwriting means you won’t give us your medical history. Instead, you’ll complete a pre-treatment form each time you need to make a claim. This is so we can confirm if the condition is new or is pre-existing.
Though we don’t cover pre-existing conditions, we can still support you. You can chat to a nurse any time of day or night on the Anytime HealthLine. Or, speak to a doctor with a virtual or face-to-face appointment.

We offer two different types of health insurance cover to give you more choice. You can choose from either:
- Comprehensive cover - includes both private diagnosis and treatment
- Treatment and Care cover - offers private treatment following a private self-paid or NHS diagnosis

If you have symptoms related to cancer, mental health or muscles, bones and joints our Direct Access service is here for you. We'll check your symptoms over the phone and offer guidance on your next steps. We may be able to refer you to a specialist too.
Any onward referrals for consultations, tests or treatment are subject to the benefits and exclusions of your cover.

Cover for yourself and those around you
Couples save 5%
Couples pay 5% less for a joint policy compared to the price of two separate policies. Both people covered must live at the same address.
Families save 10%
Families pay 10% less for a joint policy compared to the price of separate policies for each family member. The cover must include at least one adult and one or more children.
You can also add more than one child under 20 years old to your policy and you'll only pay for the eldest child. No matter how many more children you add. You’ll still receive the 10% family discount, too.
The couple and family offers apply to our Comprehensive and Treatment and Care policies. We may remove or change these offers when you renew.

Our cancer promise
If you have cancer symptoms that start after your policy begins, call us directly. And if appropriate, we can refer you to a consultant right away.
Our full cancer cover means there are no time limits and all of your eligible costs are covered. Just use a hospital or health centre from our network and a consultant that we recognise who charges within our limits. As long as you have cancer cover with your policy, we’ll be with you from diagnosis to treatment.
