Health insurance with GP cover
From insurance to doctors appointments, we’ve got you covered
Our health insurance now comes with 15-minute face-to-face GP appointments at Bupa health centres, for everyone covered by your policy.
During your appointment, you can talk to a doctor about one minor illness or concern. If the doctor feels you need further tests, some of these including blood tests for ages 16 and above, swabs or electrocardiograms (ECGs) are included.
Other tests and scans such as X-rays, ultrasounds and echocardiograms aren’t covered under this service, alongside chronic and long term conditions.
You won’t need to pay any excess if you use the face-to-face service and, if you have one, it won’t affect your no claims discount (PDF, 0.9MB).
Can I get a face-to-face doctor’s appointment as part of my cover?
I pay for my cover
Anyone covered on your policy can get a 15-minute doctor appointment. This includes children.
My employer pays for my health cover
This benefit isn’t included with cover you might have through your employer.
How to book a doctors appointment using your health insurance
To use your health insurance’s GP cover, you’ll need to follow some steps to correctly book your appointment.
The face-to-face service isn't suitable for medical emergencies. If you need urgent medical care, please call 111, 999 or visit your nearest Accident and Emergency department.
1. Find a Bupa health centre
You’ll need to go to a Bupa health centre for your appointment.
Choose from one of our 62 health centres using our online directory, Finder.
2. Call us with your details
To get an appointment you’ll need:
- your health insurance membership number, found in your policy documents and in the My Bupa app.
- to call us and share the relevant booking code.
- Existing customers will have received the booking code and phone number
by post or email. If you've recently joined Bupa, you can find these details in your policy documents and in the My
Bupa app. Without this code, we won’t be able to book you an appointment. Our team are here to help between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday and
8am to 4pm on Saturdays.
3. Book your appointment
With your booking code and membership number, we’ll help you book an appointment at a time and health centre that works for you.
We’ll need to take your payment details when you book. You won’t be charged unless:
- you do not attend
- you did not cancel with at least 24 hours notice
- your cover does not include this service
A charge will be made to the credit or debit card provided if any of these happen. We will explain the charges when you book your appointment.
Appointments are usually available from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, as well as Saturdays and evenings at selected centres.
What can I use my GP cover for?
What tests are available on the day?
If the doctor says you need a test, many can be done as part of your appointment at no extra cost. If the tests needed can’t be done in the same appointment, we’ll make another one for you. You won’t need to pay for this.
Tests available include:
- Blood tests for ages 16 and above
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Saliva or sputum samples
- Stool samples
- Swabs
- Urine samples
What about other tests or a referral?
If the doctor decides you need different tests or refers you to see a private consultant, the cost of these aren’t included as part of your appointment. However, your Bupa health insurance may cover you for the cost of the referral and treatment.
You can find information about your cover, including what you're covered for and your no claims discount in your policy documents and in the My Bupa app.
