Employee weight loss plan
What is Bupa’s employee weight loss plan?
Our plan is for employees who feel like they’ve tried everything to lose weight, but aren’t seeing results. We know that weight is personal, and sometimes lifestyle changes aren’t enough.
That’s why our plan includes access to clinically‑approved weight‑loss medication, offered in a safe and non‑judgemental way.
As part of the plan, eligible employees can get:
- 30-minute appointment with a Bupa clinician
to discuss and plan weight loss treatment. - Weight loss medication
if they’re eligible and a clinician approves treatment.. - Lifestyle coaching
if they want support with weight loss. - 24/7 advice and support
from non-judgmental, trained nurses. - Follow-up appointments with a Bupa clinician every 6 months
to review progress and plan next steps.
When people are healthier, it shows in their work. Invest in your people’s health and build a workforce that feels good, performs better and stays in your business for longer.

Why support employees with weight loss?
With obesity costing the UK around £30.8 billion in productivity each year1, the effects are felt across workplaces. Supporting employees with healthy habits can make a real difference.
Reduce unexpected absences
Healthier employees tend to take fewer sick days, helping to prevent disruption.
Keep health costs more predictable
Supporting healthy weight now can lower the need for costly health interventions in the future.
Improve day‑to‑day performance
When employees feel physically well, they’re more engaged and productive.
How our employee weight loss plan works
Practical, evidence-based treatment that helps employees lose weight safely.
30-minute consultation with a Bupa clinician
Employees will meet with a clinician to discuss their current health and weight goals. This can be done remotely or in person. Our clinicians will look at things like their medical history and body mass index (BMI) to see if they’re eligible for the plan. They must be eligible for weight loss medication to continue with the plan.
Access to medication, if approved
If they’re eligible, employees will get a prescription for weight loss medication. Typically, employees will need to pay for the prescriptions. Prices start from £169 depending on the medication prescribed. Every four weeks, they’ll get a questionnaire about their progress. A clinician will review their answers, and prescribe the next dose of medication.
Lifestyle coaching
When employees complete the questionnaire, they can speak to a lifestyle coach if they want to. A lifestyle coach can help employees with motivation and meeting their weight loss goals. They can also provide some wellbeing support.
Follow up appointment with a clinician after six months
During this appointment, the clinician will check how employees are progressing with the weight loss plan. If employees continue treatment, they’ll have an appointment every six months.
Ongoing nurse support, anytime
Throughout their treatment, employees can access our Anytime HealthLine. They can ask trained nurses questions about any part of their weight loss plan, and get support.
Eligibility
Employees must be over 18 to be eligible for our weight loss plan. They must also have either:
- a BMI of 30 or more
- a BMI of 27 or more and a weight-related condition such as hypertension or sleep apnea
We can now also accept people with Type 2 Diabetes onto the employee weight loss plan.
Exclusions may apply on certain medications, and employees will be required to provide evidence of medications and the result of a recent HbA1c test. They should speak to their GP or a Bupa GP for more details.
Who isn’t eligible?
Employees aren’t eligible for our weight loss plan if they:
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
- can’t use weight loss injections due to a condition they have
If an employee isn’t eligible for weight loss medication, they can’t join our weight loss plan.
