Resident at local care home celebrates 103rd birthday
Residents and carers at The Manor House Bupa Care Home in Birkenhead have come together to celebrate a 103rd birthday.
Nora Duncan turned 103 on Sunday 28th February and enjoyed a party with fellow residents and staff at The Manor House, where she has lived for the past eight months. Carers at the home decorated the lounge with balloons and birthday banners, and the celebrations were complete with a homemade cake baked by caretaker, Sam Edwards.
To mark the special day, Nora received a surprise visit from her daughter, Jill in the home’s visitors’ pod, where she was showered with gifts, cards and her favourite treats.
When asked about celebrating her 103rd birthday this year, Nora said: “It’s a blessing to have reached 103 and to have my lovely daughter by my side to celebrate with me. I haven’t been at Manor House long, but since moving here the staff and fellow residents have made me feel welcomed and it really does feel like home. I’d like to thank everyone for making this birthday one to remember.”
Nora grew up in the Birkenhead and left school aged 14 to work at Lewis’s store before later becoming a hairdresser and setting up a business from her home. An evacuee during the Second World War, Nora moved to Wales to escape the conflict and described the experience as a ‘defining moment’ in her life. Nora has one daughter, Jill and three grandchildren who she loves dearly.
Sharing her secret on how to live a long, happy life, Nora said: “I played golf and loved to hike in all areas of the country, I still played golf until my late 80’s”
Home Manager at The Manor House Bupa Care Home, Kathryn Macdonald, added: “Nora has an amazing spirit, and her smile lights up every room that she enters. We’re delighted to have been a part of her 103rd birthday celebrations here at Manor House, it was such a lovely occasion. The team went above and beyond to make the day special for Nora, and it was so rewarding to see her so happy.”
