Mayor visits Heathland Court Care Home

The Mayor of Merton visited Wimbledon-based care home, Heathland Court, to show her appreciation of the staff’s ongoing hard work throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

In recognition of their dedication to providing quality care to residents, Cllr Sally Kenny hand delivered a certificate to the staff at the home. She praised their commitment to looking after others in such a challenging time and for keeping vulnerable members of the community safe.

Throughout the pandemic, the home has been working tirelessly to keep families connected virtually, arranging video calls to involve friends and family in activities. As of March 2021, the home began welcoming nominated visitors again, thanks to the efforts of Heathland Court’s care workers following official Covid-19 guidance.

Cllr Kenny applauded the staff’s ability to adapt daily routines at the home to abide by Government guidelines. Heathland Court has made every effort to make life at the home safe by following government guidance as well as including the use of full PPE and undertaking regular testing.

The Mayor also commended their ongoing ambition to keep spirits high at the home, whilst maintaining the highest quality care possible. Over the last 12 months, Heathland Court has organised activities for residents such as adapted exercise classes, baking sessions, gentlemen and ladies clubs, quiz nights as well as celebrating Easter, Mother’s day, St. Patricks day and resident’s birthdays. These activities are designed to be inclusive for a range of needs and abilities for residents, so everyone at the home can get involved.

Activities Manager, Ruth, said: “It’s important to keep our residents active and engaged throughout the day. The last year has been a particularly challenging time for the care industry, which is why it is more important than ever to keep energy levels high and smiles on faces. We often arrange activities based on residents’ hobbies and interests to make sure everyone has something they enjoy.”

Commenting on the Mayor’s visit, Home Manager, Arturas Repkovas, who joined Heathland Court earlier this year, added: “It was such an honour to have the Mayor of Merton visit our care home and we are overwhelmed to receive recognition for all our efforts during the pandemic.

“I joined Heathland Court in January of this year and I can already see how hard the team of staff work and how well they care for our residents. They deserve every bit of praise they receive, having navigated through such a difficult and emotional year. I’m proud to have joined this friendly and dedicated team.”
