Just need to talk?
Speak to a mental health nurse
If you’re not feeling yourself, call our mental health support team. They can provide advice and discuss your feelings and symptoms and how we can help, and can put you directly through to a mental health nurse.
We also have expert advice and guidance to support you with your mental health condition, on our mental health hub.
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health when it comes to overall wellbeing.
If you’re not feeling your ‘normal’ self, we know that getting the right help quickly is important.
So if you’re concerned about your mental health, we’re here to listen.
Members can call us and we’ll arrange a telephone consultation with one of our mental health practitioners.
They’ll listen to your concerns, discuss options and depending on your cover, could even refer you to a consultant or therapist without the need to wait and see your GP first.
If your cover has any exclusions, you may be required to provide evidence that your symptoms are not pre-existing.
We’ll even cover you for an addiction treatment plan, regardless of the nature of the addiction‡‡.
Calling us for guidance won’t cost you anything or have an effect on your policy - so regardless of your level of cover,
Call us as soon as you notice something’s not quite right and we can advise you on the next best steps.
Whatever’s on your mind, we can help.
Worried about others?
Call our Family Mental HealthLine
You’ll receive advice, guidance and support from a trained adviser, no matter what your family’s going through.
Your child doesn’t have to be covered under your policy and using this service doesn’t count as a claim. We’re here to help.
More about family mental health
Please check your policy documents to see if you have mental health cover.
Mental health issues can affect people at any age.
School, puberty, peer pressure and social media – just growing up can be overwhelming to some children, who can struggle to find what ‘normal’ is, for them.
In fact, a third of parents of children aged 4-17 said their child had been affected by a mental health issue in the last year and many parents struggle to talk about mental health with their children.
That’s why we’ve created the Bupa Family Mental HealthLine to open up the conversation around mental health with as many parents and carers as we possibly can.
If you’re with Bupa, you can talk to us, about any child in your care, regardless of whether they have cover.
Members can call our dedicated Family Mental HealthLine and speak to our trained advisors, who will listen to what’s worrying you and give clear advice on what to do next or put you through to a Bupa mental health nurse there and then.
Helping your family and your child get back to your ‘normal’ sooner.
Whatever’s on your mind, we can help.
We’re committed to helping people improve their mental health
Our mental health hub has lots of information about mental health and wellbeing.
Anyone can use it, even if they don’t have health insurance with us.
Our mental health support
We think the mind is just as important as the body.
After all, it makes us who we are.
Our commitment
You might be surprised to learn that mental health cover comes as standard with many of Bupa’s health insurance policies.
Not only that, but we cover more mental health conditions than any other leading UK insurer†. You’re also covered for conditions which come back again‡.

How we support you
We stay with you on your journey, providing ongoing support during and after your mental health treatment.
So, if you aren’t feeling yourself, call our mental health support team who can listen, advise and can put you through to a mental health nurse.

Continued support for your condition
If you have health insurance with us, you’ll have support for almost every mental health condition there is. And you’ll still be covered even if your condition comes back − time after time†‡.

†As of September 2020, this analysis is based on an internally conducted review of the consumer, SME and Corporate health insurance markets using publicly available information from the major insurers in the UK consumer health insurance market. Combined, Bupa, AXA PPP, Aviva, Cigna and Vitality hold approximately 90-93% of the Gross Written Premium income of UK PMI providers. Refers to standard mental health cover when this is included in the selected health insurance or health trust product. We acknowledge that schemes can have bespoke benefits.

‡Conditions that come back are defined as chronic. As of June 2019, we removed the chronic mental health rule on our consumer policies. However, if you joined Bupa or renewed your policy before June 2019, the chronic rule will still apply until you renew. Your certificate will show the date of your next renewal – but please call us if you are unsure. For any business policies please refer to your policy documents to see if you have mental health as part of your cover. If you have mental health benefits your guide will confirm if your employer has chosen to remove the chronic rule for mental health conditions.
††Direct Access telephone services are available as long as the symptoms are covered under the policy. If your cover excludes conditions you had before your policy started, we'll ask you to provide evidence from your GP that your symptoms are not pre-existing for a period of up to two years from policy start date (or up to five years in the case of mental health). Always call us first to check your eligibility.
