Low libido
What is low libido?
Also known as a low sex drive, low libido refers to having a lack of interest in sexual activity. It can often feel the same as erectile dysfunction, as they sometimes share the same symptoms.
Loss of libido is a common problem affecting up to 1 in 5 people assigned male at birth
What are the symptoms of low libido?
There are a number of signs that you have a low sex drive. The two main symptoms are having less or no interest in sex or masturbation, and having fewer thoughts about sex or sexual fantasies.
What causes low libido?
There are many reasons why a low sex drive can happen. It can come from your lifestyle, if you drink or smoke too much, have a poor diet or don’t get enough exercise. It can also be psychological, if you’re stressed, anxious or struggling with personal relationships. There can also be medical reasons behind it such as low testosterone, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.
What you can do to help?
One of the most important things you can do is to keep a close eye on your low sex drive and any changes. If it's something that is causing you worry or persisting for a few weeks or more, we would recommend seeing a GP about it.
We would also suggest seeing a GP if you’re experiencing other symptoms like tiredness or weight gain, as this can suggest there’s an underlying cause for these issues.
