Stratford-Upon-Avon care home praised by the care quality commission

25 July 2022

Canning Court Bupa Care Home in Stratford-upon-Avon has been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following its latest inspection.

The CQC’s latest report commended Canning Court Bupa Home, rating it as ‘Good’ in all areas including safety, effectiveness, and responsiveness.

Canning Court, which provides personal and specialist dementia care for up to 64 people, was praised for how residents are supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and how staff support them in the least restrictive way possible and with their best interests at heart.

Alongside commending the effective and timely care, the report noted that the care home also upholds high standards of health and safety – consistently managing risks and streamlining their systems and processes to audit and check on safety.

The inspection, which saw the CQC team speak to four residents and 12 relatives about their experiences of care at Canning Court, celebrated the kind and caring approach of the staff. One relative commented: “The staff here are fabulous. The care here has been beyond anything we could have hoped for.”

Another relative echoed the sentiment, commenting: “This is where [my relative] lives now, and this is his home. He seems much happier here.”

Canning Court’s consistent approach to a high standard of care is underpinned by the ‘Active Kindness’ training that its staff complete to help them understand how their interactions and responses with residents can positively impact on their days.

One relative explained the impact the training has had, commenting: “The staff know his preferences and know how he likes his tea. They know he likes to be well dressed and clean and his hair done, they know him well.”

Alongside the impressive care standards, the report also praised Canning Court Bupa Care Home as an employer. A new member of staff told the inspectors that their induction was comprehensive and helped them to understand their role and responsibilities. They explained, “I was really nervous when I started because I had never had a job in care before, but I am really confident with it now and I will be happy to start my shadow shifts.”

Nicola French, Canning Court’s Home Manager, commented: “The whole team at Canning Court are absolutely thrilled with the outcome of the inspection. To be rated ‘good’ in all areas really reflects the hard work of our staff and I know it means a lot to our residents and their families to see that they are in such safe hands.”
