What people are saying about the Menopause Plan

“Brilliant support, perfect amount of time. The GP actually listened to me and constructed my menopause plan in collaboration with me. I had an appointment that day and a prescription for my treatment all within the space of 2 hours. I couldn’t recommend it enough.”

“It was convenient to have a video appointment when a physical examination wasn’t required as it gave me a lot of appointment options and I didn’t have to travel for the consultation. No. Anyone who’d like to talk to one of our specially trained doctors can book our Menopause Plan. It might be that you’re concerned about approaching the menopause, or unsure if your symptoms are related to the menopause. Remember you get a full year of access to our 24/7 Anytime HealthLine for any menopause-related questions, too.

Yes. Please just ask when you book.

No, we don’t currently offer a home menopause test kit. However, we do offer a home self blood testing service for some diagnostic tests. The GP will discuss the options available to you if this is something you require.

Most of the people we see don’t need a blood test in order for us to diagnose the menopause. However, if you’re under 45 and have menopause symptoms, the doctor may recommend a blood test. This will be at an extra cost, which the doctor will discuss with you. The test will measure the level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in your blood, which increases as you approach the menopause. Levels of the FSH hormone can vary a lot in the years leading up to the menopause, so a blood test may not be reliable. For those over 45 years as long as you are healthy, the guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is that the diagnosis of perimenopause or menopause should be based on menopause symptoms alone, and should not depend on laboratory tests.

If you got a prescription the first time you saw the doctor as part of your Menopause Plan, you can get a repeat prescription (if appropriate) at your second appointment. At other times, you’ll need to book and pay for a separate appointment outside of the Menopause Plan. You can ask to see the same doctor you saw before. You can choose either a 15-minute or a 30-minute appointment.

You don’t need to have the second appointment if you don’t want to. However, our Menopause Plan is a complete package at a flat cost. If you choose not to book your follow-up appointment, we can’t make any refund to you.

Your Bupa health insurance doesn't cover this service, so it will be an extra cost. For other insurers, please check with your provider.

After a discussion with the GP, it may be decided that HRT is appropriate for you. However, we can't guarantee it will be prescribed. This could because further investigations, a referral to a specialist or communication with your own GP is needed first. Our GPs will only prescribe if it is safe to do so.

What next?

Anyone can book our Menopause Plan and there’s no need to go through your GP first.

^ Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm. We may record or monitor our calls.

The cost of the medication is not included in the plan and will need to be paid directly to the pharmacy you choose to get your medication from. Costs of medication vary.
