Care Home Encourages Intergenerational Friendships Through Activity Sessions With Local School
Bupa Erskine Hall Care Home in Northwood has set up regular activity sessions with Year Two pupils at local girl’s school, St Helen’s Primary School, in a bid to mix the generations and build new friendships in the community.
The visits started out on the odd occasion for board games and bingo, but the visits became so popular with pupils and residents that the visits increased to every few months. Staff at the home also broadened the activities to include flower arranging, arts and crafts, baking, playing instruments and singing.
Residents at Erskine Hall also return the favour by regularly attending school shows and music recitals to support the pupils at school.
Mona Gilbee, resident at Erskine Hall, said: “The girl’s visits are always adored and greatly anticipated. They bring us so much joy and cheerfulness."
General Manager, Russel Sharp, said: “We are really pleased with the wonderful relationship we have with St Helen’s School. The activity sessions have built so many friendships among students and residents. Programmes like this really helps to mix the generations and bring the community together.”
Bupa Erskine Hall is recently refurbished and welcomes anyone in need of nursing or residential care. Residents are offered a full programme of regular and seasonal activities, as well as 24-hour access to highly trained medical and care staff.
