In a heart-warming display of community spirit, school children from across Bath have shown their support for their local care home by making and posting handmade artwork.
Shockerwick Bupa Care Home has received dozens of cards, jokes, paintings and letters from local children over the lockdown period. Some of the children who have sent cards are children of the staff, others are neighbours of the home, and some just school children who wanted to send their kind wishes.
Some of the children have used the opportunity to start up a friendship and conversation with the residents, asking questions such as “do you ever regret not taking part in anything?” and “did you do any sports as a teenager?”. Others chose to write messages of support like “stay positive”, “keep smiling,” and “be happy.”
Speaking about the kind gifts, one resident said: “It’s very lovely to know the children in Bath are so kind. We look forward to the post every day to see what they’ve made next because they’re all so brilliant and creative.”
Karen Hunt, Home Manager said: “We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the support from the local community. It’s incredibly heart-warming to see people come together to support the staff and the residents like this.”
“We’ve put some of the creations in our activity room, so the residents can see them every day.”
Shockerwick House Bupa Care Home is purpose-built and welcomes anyone in need of nursing or residential care. Residents are offered a full programme of regular and seasonal activities, as well as 24-hour access to highly trained medical and care staff.
