No, anyone can book a private GP appointment and pay for it afterwards. However, if you do have Bupa health insurance, you may already be covered. Please check your policy.
Telephone and video consultations £49.00 for 15 minutes £89.00 for 30 minutes
In-person appointments at a health centre £70.00 for 15 minutes £128.00 for 30 minutes
Additional services If you need anything like a blood test, or further appointments, that will cost extra. We'll always discuss your options with you first.
If you're wondering, “How can I see a private doctor near me”, you have 2 options:
- Book a face-to-face appointment to see a private doctor
- Or, if it's more convenient for you, book a remote GP appointment which you can take from anywhere. You'll receive an email confirming your appointment time, and then the GP will call you at the date and time you booked.
You can book by phone or book online. To book by phone, please call us on 0343 253 8530. Lines are open 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and we're closed on weekends. We may record or monitor our calls
You’ll be asked to secure your booking using your card details. Then you can pay afterwards using Visa, MasterCard, Switch, Delta or Diners Club. We don’t accept cash or cheques, or American Express.
We welcome everyone. If you have any particular needs, please let us know when you book so that special arrangements and/or an extended appointment can be made for you, if necessary. If you have restricted mobility, we may need to give you additional information about parking or access to the building. If you have other difficulties, for example with communication, we recommend bringing someone with you (such as a signer). We do not have specialist equipment such as hoists.
Telephone and video consultations Yes. The call is by telephone or video so you won’t place anyone at risk if you do have the coronavirus.
In-person appointments at a health centre No. If you need information or advice, please visit NHS 111 online or call 111. If your symptoms become severe, please consider whether you need to call 999.
If you provide less than 24 hours’ notice, you’ll need to pay the full cost of the appointment. Before that, there’s no cancellation charge.
Any prescription issued will be private. This means that you’ll need to pay for your medication, and costs vary − it isn’t a flat fee like with the NHS. The price you pay could be more or less than the NHS fee, and includes the cost of the medication as well as any pharmacy dispensing fee. Costs vary according to the medication and possibly also the pharmacy. Bupa doesn’t have information about the cost of each drug.
If your private GP appointment is by telephone or video call, please consider in advance of your call which local pharmacy you’d like to use, in case the doctor provides a prescription. That way, the doctor can make arrangements to send the prescription directly to that pharmacy right away. You can then collect your medication or arrange to have it delivered if the pharmacy offers that service.
During the pandemic our health centres had to close, so we moved all of our private GP appointments to telephone or video calls. The convenience of these proved popular with our customers, so we’re continuing to offer them even though our health centres have all reopened. This means you have the choice of a remote/virtual appointment or a health centre appointment. In some circumstances, however, the GP may recommend that you have a face-to-face appointment.
You can choose to have a remote call by telephone or video. Just like a face-to-face appointment, you can discuss whatever you want. It’s all completely confidential and your personal data is secure.
We’ll send you simple instructions and a link before you have your call. You have two options:
- If you’re planning to use a laptop or desktop computer, you can take the call using your web browser
- If you’ll be using a smartphone or tablet, you’ll probably want to use an app.
If the GP thinks there are sound medical reasons for it, they may advise you to attend a face-to-face appointment. This could be at one of our Bupa health centres. There will be an additional charge for this appointment.
Please try to make sure you’re available at the time you booked, and answer the call promptly. If you do miss the call, the GP will make one further attempt to contact you. If you fail to answer again, we can’t continue with your appointment. At this point there may be two options:
- We may be able to reschedule your appointment, but there will be an additional cost for this.
- If we can’t reschedule, or you no longer want to go ahead, you’ll have to pay a cancellation charge. This will be the full cost of your appointment.
^ We may record or monitor our calls.
†The cost of issuing a prescription is included in your appointment fee, but you'll need to pay for the medication at the pharmacy of your choice. This cost is not a flat fee and will vary according to the medication you've been prescribed, and may also vary between pharmacies.
