Private doctor appointments: face to face or remote
Pay as you go Bupa GP services for anything you need
Our private GP services are here for whatever is worrying you. You don’t need health insurance to book and our GP appointment costs are always upfront.
We offer face-to-face or remote GP appointments. We recommend a 30- or 45-minute appointment for your first one, or if there is more than one thing you'd like to discuss. We also have 15-minute slots for repeat appointments or one minor concern.
If you need prompt advice, you can often see a GP on the same-day or the very next day.
If you have a medical emergency, please don't wait for a GP appointment with us even later in the day. Call 999 or go straight to A&E.
A medical emergency includes things like:
- chest pain
- severe or sudden breathing difficulties
- suspected stroke or seizure
- bleeding heavily

See a private GP
During your appointment, you can use the time to talk to the GP about whatever’s on your mind. This can include any mental or physical health symptoms you’ve been having.
Your next steps
Your Bupa GP may suggest a range of next steps. This could be further tests, a private prescription, or a referral to a specialist. The GP will discuss any next steps with you during your appointment.
We also offer remote private GP appointments
You can also speak with a private GP over a telephone or video call from your smartphone, tablet or computer. We have slots available on the weekend too, subject to availability.
The doctor can refer you for further tests. These may cost extra, but we’ll always discuss your options with you. If required, the GP can issue a prescription, which you can get delivered for free via our pharmacy partner, or you can give your prescription code to a pharmacy that the GP will have emailed to you.†
Why choose Bupa’s private GP services?

- The GP could also refer you on to another service. While they can't refer into NHS secondary care, they can contact your GP (with your permission) about their recommendations.
- Our trusted service is completely confidential and secure.

In-person appointments at a health centre
No. If you need information or advice, please visit NHS 111 online or call 111. If your symptoms become severe, please consider whether you need to call 999.
Any prescription issued will be private. This means you will need to pay for your medication, medication costs vary by medicine and by the pharmacy who dispenses it, its not a flat fee like in the NHS.
If your GP provides you with a digital prescription you can arrange for free delivery via our pharmacy partner, or you can go to a participating pharmacy and give them your prescription code that the GP will email to you. If you are given a paper prescription you can take this into any pharmacy for them to dispense.

We cannot deal with any medical emergencies in centre or remotely, please dial 999 or 111 for assistance.
We can offer blood tests to 16 and 17 year olds if the doctor feels these are necessary. The person having the blood tests will need to give their consent.
The GP could refer you on to another service privately (at an additional cost). They can't refer into NHS secondary care, but they can contact your NHS GP (with your permission) about their recommendations. Secondary care means services from specialists who you don't usually see at first contact. For example if you need an echocardiogram (a type of heart scan).
