What does an Outstanding CQC rating mean for residents?
An Outstanding rating is the highest rating awarded by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). It recognises care homes that consistently deliver exceptional standards of care and support.
To achieve an Outstanding rating, a care home must show exceptional care and positive outcomes for residents in at least two of the five areas assessed by the CQC. These are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. A home does not need to be Outstanding in all five areas to receive an overall Outstanding rating.
For residents, this can provide reassurance that the home has been independently assessed and recognised for the quality of care it provides. Residents may experience this through personalised care, meaningful activities, strong relationships and a welcoming environment.
While ratings are important, they're only one part of choosing a care home. We always recommend visiting a home, meeting the team and getting a feel for day-to-day life before making a decision.
