Pay as you go Bupa GP services for anything you need

Our private GP services are here for whatever is worrying you. You don’t need health insurance to book and our GP appointment costs are always upfront.

We offer face-to-face or remote GP appointments. We recommend a 30- or 45-minute appointment for your first one, or if there is more than one thing you'd like to discuss. We also have 15-minute slots for repeat appointments or one minor concern.

If you need prompt advice, you can often see a GP on the same-day or the very next day.

If you have a medical emergency, please don't wait for a GP appointment with us even later in the day. Call 999 or go straight to A&E.

A medical emergency includes things like:

  • chest pain
  • severe or sudden breathing difficulties
  • suspected stroke or seizure
  • bleeding heavily

Why choose Bupa’s private GP services?

  • You don’t need to be a Bupa member to book a private GP appointment.
  • If it’s urgent, you can often see a GP on the same day or the very next day.
  • The GP could also refer you on to another service. While they can't refer into NHS secondary care, they can contact your GP (with your permission) about their recommendations.
  • Our GP can write you a private prescription.
  • Our trusted service is completely confidential and secure.

If required, the GP can issue a digital prescription, the medication can then be delivered for free via our pharmacy partner, or you can give your prescription code to a pharmacy that the GP will have emailed to you.

The cost of medication isn’t included in your appointment fee, and needs to be paid directly to the pharmacy you use. These prices can also vary.

"My appointment was extremely thorough. The GP that I saw was really helpful and I felt like she gave the appointment a great deal of time, care and attention. I would highly recommend the service to anyone, it was easy to get an appointment, the online booking system was easy to use and it is really helpful having all of my notes on the portal.”

If you have other difficulties, for example with communication, we recommend bringing someone with you (such as a signer). We do not have specialist equipment such as hoists.

Telephone and video consultations
Yes. The call is by telephone or video so you won't place anyone at risk if you do have the coronavirus.

In-person appointments at a health centre
No. If you need information or advice, please visit NHS 111 online or call 111. If your symptoms become severe, please consider whether you need to call 999.

If you provide less than 24 hours' notice, you'll need to pay the full cost of the appointment. Before that, there's no cancellation charge.

Any prescription issued will be private. This means you will need to pay for your medication, medication costs vary by medicine and by the pharmacy who dispenses it, its not a flat fee like in the NHS.

If your GP provides you with a digital prescription you can arrange for free delivery via our pharmacy partner, or you can go to a participating pharmacy and give them your prescription code that the GP will email to you. If you are given a paper prescription you can take this into any pharmacy for them to dispense.

We are currently unable to provide minor surgery or a dressings service.

We do not prescribe controlled drugs, for example morphine or related medications or certain sedatives. However, we can refer you to an appropriate service for help with conditions requiring such medications.

You are free to see any GP you like, either within the NHS or privately. We strongly advise that you remain registered with an NHS GP, just in case of any future medical emergency.

Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm and Saturday, 9am to 5pm. We may record or monitor our calls.

We are unable to offer vaccinations in our health centres.

We cannot deal with any medical emergencies in centre or remotely, please dial 999 or 111 for assistance.

We can offer blood tests to 16 and 17 year olds if the doctor feels these are necessary. The person having the blood tests will need to give their consent.

The GP could refer you on to another service privately at an additional cost.

They can't refer into NHS secondary care. They can contact your NHS GP about their recommendations. This is done with your permission.

Secondary care means services from specialists who you don't usually see at first contact. For example, if you need to see a Dermatologist about a complicated skin issue, or an Orthopaedic surgeon regarding severe arthritis, or if you needed a specialist cardiac investigation.
